Editorial Policy

How Romancoholic researches, writes, reviews and corrects its advice, and how and how affiliate links work here.

Romancoholic has published relationship, dating and sex advice for women since 2017. This page sets out how that work is done, so you can judge for yourself whether to trust it.

Who writes here

Every article carries the name of the person who wrote it, and every writer has a page listing everything they have published with us. There are no ghostwritten house bylines and no articles attributed to “the editorial team”.

Meet the writers

Mike Morgan, a relationship and sex coach, has edited the site since it launched and is responsible for everything published here.

How articles are researched

We write from three sources, in this order of preference:

  1. First-hand experience. What our writers have actually lived, tested or practised.
  2. Published research, linked so you can read it yourself. Where we cite a study or a statistic, the link goes to the source, not to another blog quoting it.
  3. Professional guidance, where the subject calls for it.

Where a claim is contested or the evidence is thin, we say so rather than picking the version that makes a neater article.

How products are tested

Every product review on this site is written by someone who has used the product.

We do not publish reviews based on manufacturer descriptions, press releases or other people’s reviews. A review will tell you what the product is like to actually live with, including what it does badly, and will say plainly when something is not worth its price.

We buy most of what we test. Where a company sends us a product, that does not change what we write about it, and we say so in the review.

Sex toy reviews are written by Tiffany Pierce, who has reviewed for this site since 2019.

How we make money

Some articles contain affiliate links. If you buy something through one, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you.

Three things follow from that, and we hold to all of them:

  • Affiliate relationships never decide rankings or recommendations. If the product we rate highest pays us nothing, it still goes first.
  • Every affiliate link is disclosed, both in a notice at the top of the article and in the link itself, which is marked so search engines can identify it as sponsored.
  • We will tell you not to buy something. A review that recommends everything is an advertisement, not a review.

Updates and corrections

Advice ages. Products are discontinued, research moves on, and the way people date changes.

Every article shows the date it was last updated, not just the date it was first published. When we revise a piece substantively, that date changes.

If you find something wrong (a broken link, an out-of-date product, a claim that does not hold up, or a study we have misread) tell us and we will fix it. Corrections to anything factual are made to the article itself rather than quietly dropped.

What this site is not

Romancoholic publishes advice, not therapy, and nothing here is a substitute for professional care. If you are dealing with abuse, coercion, or a mental health crisis, please speak to someone qualified to help.
